The Odyssey

Outer building of odyssey cinema

Our History

We are a historic cinema dating back to 1908 and are very proud of our journey through time and the building’s history.

In 1945 we changed from being The Capitol to an Odeon cinema and in the mid 50s a new Cinemascope had been installed for screening widescreen films. In 1973, Odeon St Albans was one of the first to be converted into multiplexes with three separate screens.

The cinema stayed open for another 50 years, until closing its doors to the public in 1995 due to a steady decline in cinema attendance.

Food & Drink

Here at The Odyssey we offer a selection of beverages and food to help enhance your cinema experience!

We have two bars, one located in the foyer as you come into the cinema, and one within the screen itself - located towards the back of the downstairs seating area.

Getting Here

If arriving via train from St Albans City station, ensure you exit onto platform 1 which will take you through to the station car park.

Carry on to Victoria St, walking past the Iceland and turning left onto Alma Rd when you see The Horn pub.

Continue walking to the end of the road, turn right where you will soon be able to cross the road at the traffic lights.

And here you are!
